Compass Placement
Options for placing magnetic compasses
Hard to find a good place ;-(
Somehow we didn't quite sort this out upfront ...
Unfortunately, not a whole lot of good options.
Helm Stations
this would be the traditional place to put it
but the space is a bit tight ...

the traditional space above the hub makes it very hard to use
when steering to compass (it is too low down to be comfortable

it could go somewhere on the top right corner ...

... where the current space for the ipad is.

however, that is only a few cm thick (i believe 3) and the back end of the compass would stick out on the other side where it could be in the way of the winch-handle

... the disk is 150 mm diameter

the compass is 143, he ring would be 158 mm

in terms of sight-line it would be quite good but not as good as on the coach roof
Between power controls and bar
this seems to be the only workable space on the helm stations

where the green cable is right now

would fit, but is not in a comfortable space when helming

from an angle

or on port, where the controls for the bow-thruster are

which obviously would have to be moved
Cuddy top or beneath
would be nicely in the site line
however, concerned about a line snagging a compass, but perhaps stick it on upside down beneath

the grey pipe is at the center of the sight-line

IN TERMS OF USABILITY, THIS WOULD BE THE BEST SPOT

the compass could possibly put in at an angle, with the
bottom part sticking out underneath the cuddy.
or a pipe could be welded on top so that compass isn't leaning to the side

Beneath the Cuddy
It can't go in the center, because it would be in the way

or it would obstruct the hatch (not shown here)

the right side wall will be obstructed by the door, otherwise it would be perfect.

There are also vents to the engine room left and right of the door , so that won't be good for much either

where the green cable is right now

above the port window might work, this spot can be seen from both helm stations.

the disk shows the location from the backbord staton borderline ok

and closeup
Second Unit for Pilot House
this would be a good option if we have only one helm-station unit

or as a luxury, with two helm-station units

This would be a good unit for inside of the pilot house in front of the nav station
